Gannaane Community Contribution

Gannaane Ry is a non-profit, non-political organization formed in 2002 by Somalia people living in Finland in response to the increasing need to participate in the improvement and rehabilitation of communities living in Somalia. Somalia is in a grave humanitarian situation. Development especially in the education sector has greatly suffered since the fall of the central government in 1991. Gannaane Ry, a non governmental Organization in Finland, has set forth to rehabilitate existing schools in El Adde area of the Gedo Region in Somalia and subsequently encourage child education in both primary and secondary schools. Assistance from Gannaane RY included the provision of school learning materials as well as support with staff salaries. With budgetary support from the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gannaane RY has rehabilitated one primary and one secondary school in El Adde District. Currently there are a total of 375 pupils in both the primary and secondary schools. The schools enjoy modest staffing with a total of 14 teaching staff.

Mission

Our mission is to support in order to produce educated, talented and competitive new generation in Gedo region. To provide support to healthcare system, social services and economic development, basic and adult education to help communities recover from war by enhancing their capacity to utilize their collective strength to promote rehabilitation, recovery and development of their respective livelihoods.

Objectives

  • To provide support to the healthcare system, social services, basic and adult education and socio-economic developments

  • To provide potable water systems/points/catchments in pastoral areas and promote improved hygiene and environmental sanitation practices among the urban pastoralist population.

  • To establish a vocational technical training school to reduce the illiteracy and develop technical skilled generation.

  • To promote good health awareness and education community about (HIV/AIDS).

  • To develop anti-crime activities; such as mentoring programs, sport activities to revive and rehabilitate youth in the region.   

  • To empower the activities of women in the community and encourage them to participate and contribute the social and economic developments.

  • To increase and encourage girls’ participation in basic, adult and post-secondary education in relation to equality for opportunities.
